The procedure to perform break test on DC Series Motor is as follows:
- One important precaution in this case of motor to be taken that at no-load its speed is dangerously high as shown load speed-load (la) characteristic.
- In case of DC motor for speed control, starting, loading purpose face plate drum type controller is used. Initially it is fully inserted and then cut out gradually and run at its rated no load speed .
- The controller resistance is then not to be disturbed. For brake test, the pulley-belt-spring balance set may be used.
- By tightening the belt, the artificial load is applied and spring balance reading, speed, supply size readings are taken.
- From the brake side readings the torque and output is found and from the meter readings on supply side the input is found out.
