Causes Of Low Power Factor
- Most of the machines and equipments used on A.C. supply, use induction motor as their main drive which work at lagging p.f.
- Transformers used at sub-stations work at lagging p.f. because they draw magnetizing current which makes total current of transformer to lag behind applied voltage.
- Induction heating furnaces connected to the supply work at low lagging power factor.
- Arc lamps work at low lagging power factor.
The combined effect of all these is to cause the generators work at lagging p.f.
