     General rules for interior lighting are applicable to office lighting . Interior lighting is more governed by requirement of aesthetics and comfort than efficiency of illumination. Luminaires are designed therefore for certain category of glare control and for integration with hardware decor. For this purpose false ceilings are provided.

(D) Office Buildings Lighting 

  1. All lamps to be used should have colour rendering index more than 85 and glare rating not to exceed 1.5 minimum allowable luminance is 2000-10000 cd/m².
  2. For luminous ceilings, the luminance at angle greater than 45º should not exceed 500 cd/m².
  3. Preferred luminance’s are 80-150 cd/m² for wall 100 200 cd/m² for ceiling and 100-800 cd/m² for task area. Reductions up to 33 % can be allowed for economy.
  4. If it is possible light colours should be chosen for ceiling , wall and working planes. For optimum performance material for interior decoration should be so chosen that ceiling walls and working planes have reflectance 0.7, 0.5 and 0.3.
  5. For integrated lighting and air-conditioning system combined air handing cum lighting luminaires may be used. Arrangement of luminaires should be modular so that changes in layout or expansion does not affect the system later on.
  6. Day light should be restricted through venetian blinds or louver arrangements of similar kind.
