Methods of Improving Thermal Efficiency of a Gas Turbine Power Plant
The additional components such as :
(1) Regenerator
(2) Intercooler
(3) Reheater can be used In the system for improving efficiency.
- Regenerator utilizes the heat of exhaust gases to heat the compressed air before it is sent to the combustion chamber. This results in reduction of fuel consumption and improves efficiency.
- Intercooler : Two stages of compressors are used. Intercooler is connected between these two stages. Intercooler is the heat exchanger. This cools the partly compressed air in order to reduce volume and Increase density. ‘Intercooling increases efficiency, air rate, use of Intercooling provision, reduces the size of turbine and compressor.
- Reheater : In this case HP and LP turbines are used. In such provision, combustion gases are expanded in two turbines. Exhaust of one high pressure turbine is reheated in the reheater and then expanded in low 15 pressure turbine. improves the efficiency.
