Walk Through Energy Audit
- The walk-through energy audit is the first simple, rapid survey of the plant/ process. The audit team takes a round through the plant area with attention focussed on the energy inputs , spots of wastage and available energy conservation opportunities. Items for waste recycling opportunities are identified. The data regarding energy inputs/ outputs is collected for use during Intermediate Audit.
- The Audit team includes the Energy Management Consultant (and their staff). Manager (Operation and Maintenance). Plant Engineer, Energy Supervisor etc. Additional team members may be selected depending upon the nature of audit
- For example, Manager (Civil) may be a member for Energy Audit of a Buidling. The team walks through the plant and observes the process and note down the observations in the Check List Format.
Preliminary Data and Categories and Classification A, B, C :
- The computer based data base is created energy evaluation. Each main plant, auxiliary plant and other zone is identified by a certain number.
- The data regarding the plant, instruments, auxiliary and other zones (such as stores, canteen, office etc) is obtained from the Plant Engineering Documents.
- The energy inputs for each are identified. Preliminary assessment is made in form of A, B, C categories :
Category A : Major Energy Inputs/ Outputs
Category B : Medium Energy Inputs/ Outputs
Category C : Minor Energy Inputs/ Outputs
For example : For an arc furnace steel melting plant preliminary categories are :
Category A : Major Energy Inputs/ Outputs : 1. Electrode Consumption 2. Electrical Energy Consumption
Category B : Medium Energy Inputs/ Outputs :
Waste heat during idle period, Waste heat through cooling water, Selection of metal for charge (size and composition).
Category C : Minor Energy Inputs/ Outputs : Major and Medium Energy Input/ Output list is helpful in not missing the item during the Walk through audit
Case Study : Recommendations of Walk – Through Energy Audit.
