3 Phase to 3 Phase Cycloconverter
- As shown in Figure, we can connect three units of 3 phase to single phase cycloconverter to constitute a 3 phase to 3-phase cycloconverter.
- P correspond to the positive group SCRS and N represents the negative group SCRs. The IGR is used between each pair of P and N group in order to control the circulating current below a safe limit.
- The output of each 3 phase to single phase cycloconverter serves as one phase of the output (R’, Y’ or B’) and a three phase load is connected between these points.
- The single phase outputs of R’, Y’ and B’ are produced by using the same principle of 3 phase to single phase circuit discussed in the previous section however the voltages at R’, Y’ and B’ as phase shifted by 120° with respect to each other by means of using phase shifted gate triggering signals for the thyristors connected in the 3 phase groups.
