Bridge Type Single Phase Cycloconverter
Circuit Diagram of Bridge Type Single Phase Cycloconverter :
- The bridge cycloconverter is as shown in Figure. It consists of two single phase fully controlled converters. The SCRs 1 to 4 form bridge 1 (P – converter) whereas the SCRs 5 to 8 form bridge 2 (N – converter).
- In this circuit, the thyristors from bridge 1 (P – converter) are turned on in the positive half cycle of the output voltage waveform and the thyristors from the other bridge (N – converter) are triggered in the negative half cycle of the cycloconverter.
- The interconverter reactor L is used to avoid short circuit due to accidental turn on of thyristors from both the bridges simultaneously.
Modes of Operation of Bridge Type Single Phase Cycloconverter
There are two Modes of Operation
- Non circulating Current Mode.
- Circulating Current Mode.
