Block Diagram of DC Servomotor :
Figure shows the block diagram of a closed loop control of a DC servomotor.
The armature controlled DC servomotor is being used.
Operation of DC Servomotor :
- In this method the field winding is excited by a constant dc voltage and the armature voltage is varied in order to vary the motor speed.
- The speed command voltage is proportional to the desired speed.
- The speed command voltage is compared with the speed feedback signal obtained from the encoder.
- The difference between speed command and feedback speed is known as the “speed error”.
- The speed controller will act on this speed error to produce a control voltage VC which changes the firing angle a in such a way that the armature voltage of the motor is automatically increased or decreased. This will automatically reduce the speed error.
Thus by changing the value the armature voltage of ” ” automatically, the armature voltage is varied to vary the speed of a dc servometer.
