Objectives of Preventive Maintenance of Electrical Equipment’s
Q. State any four objectives of preventive maintenance of electrical equipment’s.
- The main objective the preventive maintenance is to protect the insulation and to maintain it in good condition to increase the life the machine.
- Particularly electrical machines which are rotating type, and stationary machines operating on or dealing with higher voltages, these are to be given due importance.
- The insulation starts deteriorating due to absorption of moisture present in the surroundings, dirt and dust, large amount of heat produced in the machine due to losses etc.
- The periodic attention is therefore essential to remove moisture, dirt, dust and keep the machine cool by carrying away the heat so produced.
- A planned and rigid system of periodic inspection and preventive maintenance will ensure undisturbed, trouble free service and prolong the life of the equipment.
- Maintenance includes periodic and regular inspection, testing reconditioning, replacing faulty parts etc.
- The maintenance schedule depends on type of machinery, frequency of its use, climatic and environmental conditions, service conditions and machine’s load cycles.
