Advantages of Installing Interline Power Flow Controller (IPFC)

(a) On equipment :

1. It protects the equipment.
2. Field failures are reduced.
3. Wear and tear of contactors is minimized.
4. It switches off the system for excessive harmonics, voltage and current.
5. It switches off banks of capacitors on main faults and also on micro-interruptions.
6. It safeguards and increases the life of the equipment.
7. Intelligent alarm functions are included in IPFC.

(b) At site :

1. Simple inspection procedure is available.
2. Gives signals on likely p.f. penalties (irregular compensation) i.e. when p.f. is not compensated to desired level.
3. Manual control can be minimized. 
4. It prevents improper manual switching.
5. It clears alarm until discharge time has elapsed to prevent false alarms.
6. Past events are stored in memory.
7. Gives alarm on malfunctions.
8. Before proper discharged, connection is not possible.
9. Gives signals on system failures.
10. Manual modes are also available for the equipment check-up.
