Energy Flow Diagram, Converting Electrical  Energy to Heat to Light

Sankey Diagram

  • Take the case of a filament lamp ( which was used in early days because now a days these are replaced by LEDs ).
  • Such diagrams are very simple, input-losses output.
  • These diagrams are developed by a scientist “Sankey”, so these diagrams are also called as Sankey diagrams.
  1. Electrical energy input = 400 J.
  2. Heat energy is a waste energy = 327 J.
  3. Useful energy as a light energy only = 75 J.

Studying these flow diagrams, new versions of lamps are developed in which case heat energy is reduced and output light energy is much more.
