Features of Solid, Liquid and Gas Biomass as A Fuel For Biomass Power Plant
Various characteristics like heat value, moisture level, chemical composition, size and density of the fuel affect the biomass fuel performance.
General features of solid, liquid and gas biomass as fuel :
- Fuels for biomass power plant should have high calorific value.
- It should have low moisture content.
- Moderate ignition temperature.
- Products obtained after complete combustion of fuel should not be harmful or hazardous.
- It should be easy to transport and low cost.
- It should produce large amount of heat.
- For liquid fuel viscosity and temperature dependence.
- Ash composition analysis.
- Storage capacity.
Examples :
- Food crops, wood, municipal waste, residue from agriculture, plant oils or animal fats, grass used in biomass power plant and biomass fuels are renewable sources of fuel. It is carbon neutral, sustainable energy source can be used to create electricity or renewable fuel or other forms of power.
- Solid biomass fuels can be used at shorter distance because for longer distance limitation is difficulty in transportation and handing.
- Gaseous biomass fuel can be substitute for natural gas, which can be further used for heat and power applications. Liquid fuel (biodiesel) can be substitute for gasoline or diesel fuel. Thus, energy obtained from organic matter (biomass) is promising renewable energy source.
