Load Dispatching Facilities

The centralized control supervises the following :

  1. Reliability of service.
  2. Quality of service.
  3. Economy of production

The facilities required for centralized control system are as follows :

  1. Dispatching Boards : A load dispatcher must be familiar with every operating function associated with generation, transmission and distribution of electrical energy. He must have a accurate end upto date minute diagram of electric circuits related to the system Now-a-days, automatic boards are being used, and the coloured lamps show the operation and position of various switches automatically.
  2. Communication facilities : The system operator communicates with various parts of the system through a telephone switch board provided only for this purpose. Another switch board serves as the recorder, which records the exchange of all the information. Both the boards operate in parallel. Radio facilities are generally available during emergencies.
  3. Metering : Adequate metering is essential for the system operator. He should have analog/ digital meters showing the total system load, generation at each plant, loads on the Interconnector system voltage and frequency.
  • Although the automatic pilot board gives a complete picture of system conditions operating orders have to be issued for, otherwise, there may be misinterpretation of orders by the operator receiving them. Apparatus is generally provided for recording telephone conversations.
