Selection of Site for Diesel Power Plants
The following factors are considered for selection of site for diesel power plants :
- The bearing capacity of the soil of the land selected should be high so as to reduce the depth of foundation, consequently its cost.
- The transport facilities must be available so as to access the site of power plant for transportation of labour, fuel, machinery etc.
- Plant should be located near the load centre to reduce the cost of transmission lines and the losses in transmission.
- Sufficient quantity of water must be available for cooling and drinking purposes.
- Availability of labour.
- Availability of land for future expansion. Site should be away from habitants since diesel engines are polluting and operation is noisy.
