Summary of Recommendations of Walk Through Energy Audit
The summary is presented in A, B, C categories :
1. Category A : Major Energy Conservation Opportunity (ECO) which give significant energy conservation opportunity. For example :
(i) Reduce the voltage supply to illumination system by reduced tap setting on isolating step-down Use transformer. (This will reduce energy consumption of lighting system by 20%).
(ii) Use preheated scrap for charging the melting furnace. (This will reduce energy consumption of melting system by 5%).
(iii) Select smaller pieces of scrap for charging the furnace.
(iv) Reschedule time schedules of melting, refining, pouring to eliminate heat loss in waiting period.
2. Category B : Medium ECOS :
(i) Reschedule starting of auxiliary plants such that peak demand is reduced (Saving in peak MVA payments for electricity 5%).
(ii) Install power factor improvement capacitor plant to reduce electricity bill.
3. Category C : Minor ECOS :
(i) Place automatic lighting control for on/ off.
(ii) Use solar panels for heating water. Collect fly ash and sell it to cement industry brick manufacturer/ tile manufacturer.
(iii) Provide transparent roof sheet and use sun light for shops.
After the Walk Through Audit Report
- Meetings were held with Plant Manager, Energy Manager and the O & M Manager to decide the action plan for executing Energy Conservation Measures.
- Management gave directives and financial approval for implementing the Energy Conservation Projects recommended by the Walk through Energy Audit.
- These were executed within one year.
- End result : Energy saving of 12% was obtained. The electrical energy bills reduced from approximate 2 lakh per month to 1.76 lakhs per month.
