Q. What is an ideal transformer?
Definition : The transformer which is free from all types of losses is known as an ideal transformer. It is an imaginary transformer that has no core loss, no ohmic resistance, and no leakage flux. The ideal transformer has the following important characteristic.
- In the actual transformer we have to consider, voltage drops, losses etc.
- Put if voltage drop and losses are neglected then there is no voltage drop so V1 = E1 and
V2 = E2 and no losses. because Input = output and hence efficiency is 100 %
- No leakage and no heating of transformer in ideal case. This is the case of an ideal transformer.
- Its ideal efficiency (η) = 100 %
Properties (Characteristics)
- It is a static machine having no-rotating parts.
- Losses are lesser and efficiency is more.
