Peak Load

(I) Base load is the minimum level of electricity demand required
over a preload for 24 hours. It is needed to provide power to components that
keep running at all times. It is also registered as continuous load.

(I) Peak load is the time of high demand. These peak demands are
often for only shorter duration. It is the difference between the base demand
and the highest demand.

(II) Examples : Refrigerator and HVAC system.

(II) Examples : Microwave oven, toaster and television.

(III) The power plant which supplies base load of curve is known as
base load plant.

(III) The power plant which supply peak load of load curve is known
as peak load.

(IV) Generating capacity of base load power plant is high.

(IV) Generating capacity of peak load plant is medium or low.

(V) Load factor of such power plant is more.

(V) Load factor of such power plant is low.

(VI) Utilization factor of such power plant is more.

(VI) Utilization factor of such power plant is less.

(VII) Large capacity hydro, thermal nuclear power station

(VII) Small capacity, Storage hydro, pumped storage hydro, gas, diesel
power station.
